Event Guidelines (Work in Progress)

Postby Lecaro on Thu Jul 23, 2009 6:18 pm

NOTE: This is currently a proposition, not an actual set of rules. However, until the final Event Guidelines are decided, you might want to consider following these to keep the server's events orderly.

Okay, I'm starting to think that the events held ingame are getting out of hand. This is not a spur-of-the-moment kind of post. I've been considering it since Moonie handed out about 7 event headgears in her string of Dice events.

It's time we set a few guidelines. None of these are finalized until I talk to Draon and Kati about them, but I ask that all of the GMs try to hold off on events until the guidelines are finalized, whether they be my version, or an altered version that Draon, Kati, and myself, can agree to.

Before Hosting an Event...
-You must get the OK from a Chief GM or Administrator before hosting an event.
-You must broadcast (/b or /nb) the event's location 5 minutes before the event starts, and give a reminder to players every minute.
-You must detail whether the event is PvP, Novice-only, or All Welcome beforehand. You don't need to mention what the event is; just what kind of character they'll be needing.
-The event cannot take place in a secluded area where only a select few can reach.
-You cannot recall players and force them to join your event. This constitutes as abuse of power.
-There must be at least 5 regular players and 1 GM present for the event to take place.

While Hosting an Event...
-GMs cannot play in their own event by dual clienting.
-During the course of the event, the GM hosting it should have Private Messages disabled, unless the specific event calls for PM use.
-Hide & Seek events are limited to Administrators and Chief GMs. A GM may aid one in a Hide & Seek event, but cannot host it.
-You are NOT allowed to message other players privately regarding the event. This is an act of GM Corruption.
-The event must be fair to all players. Unless it's a form of PvP, make sure each player has an equal chance at winning. You cannot ban items, jobs, or characters from your events, nor can you prohibit specific players unless they've been disruptive in the past.
-If the event is a quiz, you must begin with simple questions. Work your way up to the tougher ones.
-If a player is being disruptive, take a screenshot, THEN expel them from the event. This is so you can prove that you were expelling them for disruptive action, not because you don't like them. Later, make sure to post the Screenshot on the forums, so the player may be judged and punished.
-When hosting elimination round events, they must be held in an inaccessible area. During the 5 minutes before the event starts, you must supply Warp Portals to said map. Maps where events can be held will be listed below, as we get them.
-Warp portals must NOT be placed in an obstructive manner. Please refer to Ingame Rules for more information.

After the Event
-You may only reward a 2nd or 3rd place if there are more than 25 players to constitute it, and can only declare a 2nd or 3rd place in events where it is easy to tell.
-Consolation prizes may be handed out if you decide to, but it must be something relatively easy to get ingame, and cannot be refined past +4.
-Unless told otherwise, do NOT hand out custom items as prizes for an event. Also, don't hand out headgears that are exceptionally powerful (such as Baphomet Horns). When handing out prizes, try to stick with headgears that have unique looks, but don't add ridiculous stat boosts, and can't be obtained through regular ingame means.

Other Guidelines
-Leave some events for the other GMs. If you hold an event, wait a few days before hosting another one.
-There should be some type of cap on the number of events per day. Probably three (3).
-If a large event is being planned for later in the week by an Administrator, hold off on your events.
-Report the date of your event on the Forum before you host it. I'll see if I can get some sort of Calendar system working, possibly giving shifts to specific GMs to host events. (We'll see.)

I'll update this after Draon and Kati have had a chance to look over this list and talk to me about it. Also, suggestions are welcome.
I quit.
